"... the work (clarifies) Bunk's independent path, independent of Reger ... Bunk composed the Legend during the Christmas holidays of 1914, the first Christmas of the First World War, when the wish for 'peace on earth' was probably felt particularly intensely by people. In this context, a work was created which, with its serious, meditative, consoling expression, is also likely to reach today's concert audiences."
Rainer Mohrs in organ − Journal für die Orgel 2022/04, p. 58
"... this (is) a really beautiful composition added to the repertoire for this instrumentation. Professionals and amateur brass ensembles alike will enjoy it. ... (Bunk) had a quartet of flugelhorns, frenchhorn and trombone in mind for the instrumentation, but it is also wonderful to play with other brass instruments. Technically, it is not difficult for the brass players; the horn characteristic and homogeneous sound should certainly be rehearsed in order to sound like an additional register in the interplay with the organ. The tempo changes should also be implemented ..."
